Beth Engelland, partner in architecture + construction + fabrication firm Cottam Hargrave, discusses the concept of the design of one of their recent projects, the Westlake Residence. Beth explains the steel erection. A crane lifts steel decking for the elevated pool into place while Jay Hargrave, Craig Kerins and Hazey Fairless direct the pieces into place and fasten them with powder-actuated nails.
Architecture + construction + fabrication firm Cottam Hargrave discusses the concept of the design of one of their recent projects, the Westlake Residence. Beth Engelland walks viewers through the site explaining the construction methods of the J-wall and the ideas of the entry sequence. This 8,000 square foot house is located in West Lake Hills, just off of Lake Austin. White limestone, white stucco and floor to ceiling window walls yield a unique study in minimalism.
Right now we are hard at work getting ready to begin construction of the helicopter hangar. This project is designed to minimize its visual impact from an existing residence. The hangar and landing pad will occupy an existing clearing that is downhill from the house. The hangar will be partially sunk into the hillside and connected to the landscaping with an intensive green roof which will be landscaped with a variety of native Texas grasses.
